Noontime

She stared at me with glossy eyes,
a slight echo of laughter,
silence,
and all the other things I wished for.

Thoughts of another run rampantly
she’d rather not have the other in my mind
yet slowly those thoughts leave,
what’s left is emptiness
a kind that satiates as much as it starves.

We’re walking side by side for once
and yet the perversion is still there
holding
biting
staying
around
for one more night.
